MMM Come Down

Monday Morning Musings
Fourth Week of Advent
“Come Down”

I must admit that when I think of my relationship with God it often falls into the category of “Help!” He is my help in time of need. He is my salvation when I need to be saved. He is my strength when I am weak. He is my healer when I am sick. He is my supplier when I am in want. He is my hope when I feel hopeless and in despair. “Come down, O LORD, and do not leave me in this mess!” I guess I make a good Old Testament Israelite. They did the same selfish crying out.

We looked at four beliefs about God Sunday:

First, God loves you and wants to fellowship with you.
Second, God desires to dwell in you through the Holy Spirit.
Third, God desires to be respected, feared, and worshipped.
Lastly, God has fought for you, and keeps fighting for you.

These four (and probably more) beliefs came about as we looked at God coming down to his people and why he actually left the heavens to come.

This is about an invitation. But this isn’t God inviting us to come; it is we who are inviting God.

Think about sending an invitation to someone for some personal reason. What motivates you to do something like this? If we change the wording up a bit to the four beliefs, which ones connect with you the most.

“I love you and want to be with you – just because I want to get to know you better, deeply.”

“I love you and want to be where you are – to be involved in every aspect of your life.”

“I love you and want you to get to know me – to see me for who I am.”

“I love you and I want to be by your side when times get tough or in the midst of your struggles.”

Read 1st John 4:7 – 5:5.

Express your understanding of this passage as a prayer to God.
