Monday Morning Musings

Psalm 103:1

I must confess…there have been many times when I went to church but I didn’t worship. As a pastor, it is especially difficult for me at times to see Sunday as a worship day instead of a work day. I wonder if others who serve feel the same way. There are, however, many times when I physically sense the Holy Spirit fill me up when I am preaching the Word. It’s like an internal power source kicks into gear. But this is not worship; it is filling. My worship comes in the quietness of the chapel or the sanctuary on a Tuesday afternoon or a Thursday morning. It comes when I am quiet, in prayer, in study, for a lengthy period of time. Worship is not an emotional experience although it can be. Worship is about obedience. It is about offering to God what is due his almighty person.

We looked at two principles in Psalm 103:1 yesterday:

We are created to worship Yahweh God for who he is.

We are to make a conscious and intentional decision to worship him with our whole being.

I then asked two questions:

Did you go to church today?

Did you worship today?

What were your answers to those questions? And if you said “yes” to the second, what do you mean by that positive response?

Read the account of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22. How did Abraham understand worship?

Read Revelation 15:4. What does this say about worship?

Pray and ask the Lord to give a more intentional worship – that you might develop a heart that truly adores Him and gives Him His rightful blessing.
